LRO (Land Registry Office)An office where you can register and search official private property records using Ontario’s land registration system. To find out the LRO for a particular city, you can use the City/Town and LRO Cross Reference list.
PIN (Property Information Number)A unique nine-digit number assigned to each property, made up of a five-digit block number and a four-digit property number. You can find the PIN for a property by selecting Search Property, then Address.
Instrument Number (Also known as the Registration or Document Number )Identifies the document that was registered against title. On the Parcel Register, the Instrument Numbers of all the documents registered on the PIN in the Reg. Num. column.
Registration TypeThere are two registration types, Land Titles (LT) and Registry (R). Under the Land Titles System, an owner’s title to property is guaranteed by the Province. The Registry system acts as a filing system for documents relating to a particular property, with no guarantee as to ownership
StatusA PIN can be Active or Inactive. An Active PIN is ‘live’ in the registration system; an Inactive PIN has been retired or split into new properties
Property DescriptionThe legal description of the property. This is the first line on the Parcel Register
Parcel RegisterProvides the history of the property’s title, including ownership, transfers and encumbrances. It is the official government record for a property. You can purchase one by selecting Search Property, then Address or PIN (if you know the PIN).
